What are the most important tips for taking care of my e-bike battery?
Proper battery care is crucial for safety, performance, and longevity. Here are the most important things to remember:
Charge Regularly: Charge the battery at least once every 3 weeks, even if you aren't using the bike. For best results, charge it after each ride and avoid letting it sit below 20% for long periods.
Charge Correctly: Always ensure the bike's power switch is turned OFF before charging.
Monitor While Charging: Keep an eye on the battery during charging. If it feels hotter than approximately 100°F (noticeably hot to the touch), stop charging immediately as this indicates a potential fault requiring replacement. Do not leave it charging indefinitely; unplug it once full.
Avoid Deep Discharges: Try not to run the battery completely flat (to 0%). Lithium-ion batteries last longer if you avoid deep discharges.
Handle with Care: Do not drop the battery. Protect it from water exposure, as water damage is not covered by warranty.
Store Properly: Store the battery indoors at room temperature, ideally between 50°F and 77°F (10°C–25°C). Avoid extreme heat or cold. For long-term storage (weeks or months), aim for a partial charge (around 40-70%) rather than fully charged or empty, and disconnect it from the bike if possible (or ensure the battery switch is OFF).
Use Occasionally: Even if stored, using the battery briefly about once a month helps keep it healthy.
Don't Modify Settings: Avoid changing settings on the bike's LCD display unless instructed by support, as incorrect changes can damage the battery or controller.
Check Voltage (Optional but Recommended): A fully charged battery should read up to 54.6V. If it consistently reads below 53.6V after a full charge, it may have internal issues affecting performance. If it ever drops below 38V, it might be permanently damaged or asleep due to lack of charge.
